The Ginger Refuge… Can somebody point me in the direction?

100 bucks to the first person who gets me THIS girl’s number…

No I’m completely serious. For those of you who don’t know the face it’s Karen Gillan- the Doctor’s new assistant. Single-handedly the very reason I’ve become a total Dr Who convert in the past month. I’ve realized that I’ve actually got quite a thing for ginger girls…

First there was Lauren Lee Smith from The L Word. AKA: Lara the ‘Hot Sous Chef’ from season 1. In my opinion easily the most likeable and relatable character from the entire show (aside from Average Alice)

Then there was Olivia Hallinan from Sugar Rush who I had the pleasure of harassing at V Festival last year. Quite cleverly on my part I was ‘harassing on behalf of someone else’… Jules- I took advantage of your Kim crush and reaked the rewards!

And of course let’s not forget the time I flirted with life as a ginger myself. How could we forget that? Walking into a salon with black hair… spending 260 quid (550 bucks!) and over 5 hours of my life in the hope I might walk out blonde… to instead walk out like this:

Safe to say I prefer myself blonde. But as mentioned- I certainly am partial to and appreciate a fiery red head. And right now it’s total Karen Gillan fever. I actually cut short a phone conversation with one of my best friends in England the other night just because Doctor Who was on telly. So the plan of action? To get in touch with my BBC contacts and see what strings I can pull. Calling Hannah Rodger? Can we invite Miss Gillan around for dinner one night when I stay?

Sweeeeet.

  1. And don’t forget Samantha Piggott, that chick who used to work in clothing at Rebel and then got the sack. Oooh, ooh, and what about Duchess Fergie. Rrrrawl! Actually, no. I am being silly now. Of course I am. Because I know where your lust for redheads originated from…. wasn’t Kirstie Alley a redhead at one stage???? Mwahahahaha!

Oh Maxine you’re evil! Having written and already posted this regretfully I can think of a few more… Mainly DONNA from That 70′s Show. I love her!

Hhhhmmmm the BBC is just as wary of staff Doctor Who fans as they are non BBC ones so I’m afraid i can’t get u any closer than the next guy! Best I can think of is we hang out in Cardiff and hope for the best… that’s not gonna be much fun for u or much good for my career! The sad fact is u r more likely to bump into her on Melbourne than if we were hanging out in the Who production office (after all there were more photos of Matt Smith at Coachella festival in California than there were on set in Wales) My advice? Keep ur eyes peeled for her flaming locks as much while ur at home as when u r over here and smile at every redhead in case it’s her, u might spot her and worst case scenario you might get a smile back from someone who looks like her…. Sounds pretty good to me! The thing with crushes – particularly celeb ones – I’m not sure it’s just the person we like but what they represent maybe there’s no obvious plan of action to find that except keeping your eyes open oh, and maybe your heart and mind too! Han- I like what you’re saying here… Total food for thought. And I think maybe you’re right… this celeb crush embodies and represents a look/feel/character I’m interested in.
There’s a stunning red-head who often gets on the same tram as me in the morning… on 2 occasions we’ve even sat next to each other. Next time it happens- I’ll take your advice and smile. :-)
